Saying Goodbye

Assessing Quality of Life for Your Pet and Making End-of-Life Decisions.

We are never quite prepared for the loss of a pet. Pets are cherished members of our family, and it can be difficult to know when it is the right time to say goodbye.

Reaching the Decision

We want to do all that we can to help you with this difficult decision, as pet owners ourselves we understand how challenging these times are. If you need to talk to lighten your heart, we are always here to listen. And our experienced veterinarians can offer valuable insight through quality-of-life exams.

What should I think about before my pets passing?

When we say goodbye to a beloved pet, there are some questions that must be answered.

As their family, you know them best.

  • Do they appear to be enjoying their favorite activities as much as they used to?
  • Do they appear to be in pain?
  • Has their quality of life decreased?
  • How will their passing affect your family, including children and other pets?
  • What would you want to happen to their remains?

Addressing these sorts of questions can be overwhelming, please feel free to contact us if you need help answering them.

Cremation Services and Options
We use the services of Glory Bound – Pet Crematorium.  They are a family run business based in Sooke and they strive to provide the best care of your pet and their remains.

Through Glory Bound, we can offer private cremations and common cremations. Private cremations will ensure your pet's ashes are returned to you in a chosen urn or memorial necklace. If you wish, you can also bring your pet home for a home burial.
There is also the option of family members being present during the cremation at glory bound, a pre-scheduled time would need to be booked through Glory Bound directly. To see the available options, please see our "Urns and Memorial Jewelry" section. A common cremation would not provide ashes being returned.

We also offer clay paw print of your pet if wished.
